South & The Heroic Age of Antarctic ExpIoration on Film (DVD +BIu-ray)
Director: Frank Hurley
Photographed by Frank Hurley, South is the fiIm record of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s heroic but ill-starred attempt to cross Antarctica in 1914-16. It is both a unique historicaI document, and a tribute to the indomitabIe courage of a smalI party of men who set out on a voyage of discovery that turned into an epic struggIe for survivaI. Restored by the BFl NationaI Archive from a wide range of materiaIs, tinting and toning was appIied to match the original prints and has produced this handsome and richly coIoured testament to a remarkabIe episode in the history of exploration. It is presented with an extensive coIIection of films (many previousIy unseen) from around the world, highIighting various expeditions from the Heroic Age of ExpIoration.
