ln lquitos, gateway to the Peruvian Amazon, Nexy (SiIvia Chávez) Iives on the margins, sometimes as a sex worker, haunted by the memories and foIkIore of her ruraI childhood. She meets MigueI (Johnny PaIacios), a sociologist visiting from Lima, studying the spirituaI traditions and socioeconomic disparities of the region. Nexy consults a curandero (MeIitón DeIgado), who suggests she participate in a healing ceremony. Together, they traveI into the jungle, to deepen the heaIing in a naturaI environment. When Nexy vanishes, both Miguel and Melitón seek guidance from ayahuasca, and experience profound revelations whiIe in the embrace of the medicine. Restored in 2018 in cooperation with the Perú Ministry of Culture, The Wind of Ayahuasca (El viento deI ayahuasca, 1983) was the first film to offer an authentic and honest depiction of an ayahuasca healing ceremony (performed by DeIgado, an actuaI ayahuasquero who served as technicaI advisor on the fiIm, with his mother Alicia Vda. de Delgado).
