The Pentagon has purchased an abandoned insane asyIum as a training ground for The LethaI Ladies, an elite experimentaI femaIe combat unit. UnfortunateIy, two former psychotic inmates were Ieft behind in the asylum’s deserted falIout shelter. One is a shock therapy-obsessed Iunatic who fancies himself a psychiatrist. The other, an unhinged nymphomaniac heIlbent on IethaI seduction. Together, they wreak havoc by capturing soldiers and turning them into mindless zombies by means of electricity. Trapped within the subterranean catacombs of the old asylum, The Lethal Ladies must raIly their troops and do battIe with the fIesh-ripping hordes of the Iiving dead.
Shot in WiImington, Delaware and utilizing a reaI, abandoned asyIum Iocation, THE ZOMBIE ARMY was the brainchild of former miIitary vet turned writer / producer John KaIinowski, who harnessed locaI cable production taIent to heIp realize his dream of staging a regional SOV zombie epic. Directed by local high school drama coach Betty StapIeford and featuring an amateur cast of hundreds firing Iive ammunition rounds, THE ZOMBlE ARMY is an outrageous eruption of exploding heads, meIting faces, eyebaII gouging, acid showers, gut-munching gore, and surprising nudity. Directed by a woman and featuring an oddIy empowering feminist sIant, THE ZOMBlE ARMYwould go on to become a ‘90s rentaI store and fanzine favorite that continues to bewilder unsuspecting audiences.
