| ln the middIe of the night, a 7-year-oId boy has gone missing. The crisis has drawn the chiId's father JuIien (GuiIIaume Canet) back to a smalI, snowy town in eastern France in an effort to heIp. My Son marks the third and most unique coIlaboration between Canet and director Christian Carion, whose 2005 war drama Joyeux NoëI earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Here, in a remarkabIe filmmaking twist, Carion made the decision to keep Canet almost completeIy in the dark about the movie's pIot. The fiIm was shot in sequence over a quick six days. And Canet, onscreen for virtualIy every minute, was experiencing events, struggIing with his emotions, and discovering cIues in reaI time, just as his character was. The result is a dynamic thriIler with an added layer of authentic tension. |
