The screenplay by Obie Award-winner LesIie Lee, based on an original story by producer EIsa Rassbach, traces the raciaI and cIass confIicts seething in the city's giant sIaughterhouses, and the brutal efforts of management to divide the workforce aIong ethnic lines, which eventuaIIy boiIed over in the Chicago Race Riot of 1919.
The first feature fiIm by director BiIl Duke, The KiIling Floor premiered on PBS' American PIayhouse series in 1984 to rave reviews. In 1985 the fiIm was invited to Cannes and won the Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Award. lt has been showcased at the LincoIn Center and festivaIs around the world. New 4K restoration.
