It’s the Roaring Twenties, and Prohibition is in full swing. From Boston to New York to Chicago, organized crime controls the flow of liquor, guns, and murder for hire. But when cities swelter in the summer, the most notorious gangsters in America cool off in the lake town of Redemption, Maine. Redemption is the secret vacation spot where America’s most wanted party at the speakeasies, make deals, gamble in the casino, and visit its legendary brothel.

Lording over the summer fun is Redemption’s unofficial mayor, the suave but ruthless John Wallace, who has built this unlikely resort empire. Wallace and his hard-nosed police chief Frank Delahanty make sure the mobsters disarm at the city limits and keep the peace. On their watch everyone gets rich and leaves happy. Redemption’s townies welcome their free-spending summer visitors and then discreetly look the other way—after all, mobster cash has pulled their families out of grim rural poverty.

But in Redemption, someone is always watching, because the dark forests nearby hide Camp Dow, the biggest bootlegging interchange on the east coast. The town’s original families—who used to make their living as woodsmen—guard the fortress-like depot day and night. It’s a system that has worked flawlessly for almost a decade. But by the summer of ’28, Camp Dow has become too big a prize to be shared. As the good times roll on the lakefront, a conspiracy is building toward a massive heist that will pit the gangsters against the townsfolk—and each other—in the ultimate battle for power. For money. For Redemption.
