On a remote Russian island stands a mysterious rowan tree. Those who approach it are encircled in golden threads and somehow transformed - top scientists, political aides, CIA agents and even the daughter of the vice president of the United States.

What strange force is at work? And what does it want?

Reported Valentina Garnier travels to Russia's easternmost province to find out. But with the CIA determined to track down and neutralise anyone affected by the rowan, she soon finds herself caught in the middle of an epic battle for the future of humanity.

A battle between the federal government and a force that is not of this world.
