| Some records are corrected because someone made a mistake. Others are corrected because someone needed the truth to disappear. Evan Rusk makes old county maps behave for a living. Road histories, parcel lines, emergency response overlays, forgotten survey plats-his job is to take damaged records and make them fit the modern system. When Briar County hires him to help digitize its old records annex, the work should be routine. Then he finds Larkspur Road. Years earlier, Evan's sister vanished near a stretch of rural road the county later claimed had never existed the way witnesses remembered it. Her file was closed around a corrected location, a cleaner report, and a search area that never matched the ground. Inside the annex, Evan finds an old map that says the county was wrong. The road was real. The correction was deliberate. And the sealed room at the back of the records floor has kept everything the county tried to move, rename, bury, or erase. As drawers open by themselves and old routes begin forcing their way back into the building, Evan realizes the Map Room is more than an archive. It holds original locations: roads where help never arrived, rooms where people died under changed numbers, properties removed from public record, and places where grief was filed under safer names. But restoring the truth comes with a cost. Because some maps do not only show where things were. They show where the erased are sent next. The Map Room is Book Three in The Hollow Archive, a connected supernatural horror series about grief, guilt, altered records, and the places that remember what people tried to correct. |
