The league-wide student council, made up of student representatives from every Metro League school, is an example of the way that the league has done business for the first fifty years of its existence: collaborating and communicating to find the best practices used by member schools, so that doing "what's best for the kids" could occur at multiple levels throughout the league. In this way, the success of the Flint Metro League has gone far beyond athletic competition to touch academics, citizenship and social growth for students in communities around the greater Flint area, including Genesee, Lapeer, Shiawassee and northern Oakland counties.
