This book presents the historical account of bubembé, in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo and its culture from the time of colonization to the present day, retraces its social evolution. It presents the bembé area that experienced the torments of Arab and Baltic colonization, victim of the destruction and looting of cultural heritage under the Kabila maquis and pays tribute to the scientific work of Jérôme Matabishi (who died in 2017).
