| Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles
available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In computing,
sequential access memory (SAM) is a class of data storage devices that
read their data in sequence. This is in contrast to random access memory
(RAM) where data can be accessed in any order. Sequential access devices
are usually a form of magnetic memory. While sequential access memory is
read in sequence, accesses can still be made to arbitrary locations by
"seeking" to the requested location. This operation, however, is often
relatively inefficient (see seek time, rotational delay). |
