    Inhalt:
An experiment was conducted during both Kharif and Rabi seasons in 2011-12 and 2012-13 with two nitrogen levels 60 and 120 kg N ha-1 as main treatments and twenty six rice genotypes as sub treatments.Based on the yield performance and nitrogen use efficiency, six rice genotypes viz., MTU-1001, WGL-2395, MTU-1010, Pothana, Bhadrakali and JGL-1798 were selected from Kharif 2011 and the crosses were utilized to produce F1 generation in Rabi 2011-12. The F1 of Rabi 2011-12 were selfed to produce F2 generations in Kharif 2012 and back crossed with parents to produce BC generations.Evaluation of parents, F1, F2 and BC generations was done in Rabi 2012-13.From the crosses of six generations i.e., P1, P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2 were generated and analyzed in Rabi season, 2012-13. Among the crosses, MTU-1001 X JGL-1798 and (MTU-1001 X JGL-1798) X MTU-1001 recorded maximum SCMR, photosynthetic rate, NUE and yield. From the investigation it can be concluded that the cultivars with high uptake efficiency had higher nitrogen contents than cultivars with low uptake efficiency from nitrogen application.
