| Anyone working to get started on poetry, or to simply enjoy poems in various forms, will be surprised to discover just how instructional, without meaning to be, is the book "Poetry to Ponder", by award-winning poet and author, Rex B Valentine.
The first decidedly impressive factor of this book is the author's remarks leading to the poems. This makes it a getting-personal experience. Even those who are less-enthused about poetry will feel a stirring of exciting new wonder in their daily lives from which to contemplate when they read his work.
"Poetry to Ponder" gives us the beauty of the written word in its narrative form, or as in sonnets, villanelles, free verse, and hsinkus. All of the original 113 poems delve into the unusual, the artful, the interesting, the humorous, the mundane, the spiritual, and the quirky, among others. The author rightly touts the poems, "a diversification of subjects and styles; written to 'flow', and are generally easy to understand."
The other wow-factor is the double arrangement of the two indexes, by page number and alphabetical as well. This feature comes in handy for those who are desiring to become authors, or those who might be studying this book. It has been used in some high school English classes for instruction, example, and entertainment.
Rex's work is like an awakening of a great poetic mind that is so diversified in its thinking, that it can connect with many different people in a sincere and easy-to-understand way. He radiates an oneness of spirit, in that many are touched by his unique, original writings.
Rex was inducted into "The World Congress of Poets" in 2004. Since that time six of his poems have won first place in their international contests. He is considered by many of that group to be their "Dean" of poets. |
