Jackson's self-styled "essentially contemplative" style is at its most expressive in this ravishing paean to Mary. A tenor solo with rhapsodic ornaments and slides give the flavour at turns of Middle Eastern chant and European folks song while retaining its own individual character . . . Despite some effects that are out of the ordinary for most church choirs, this is some of Jackson's most approachable music. The notes are not particularly difficult, and ranges are
modest.
