| In 1974 Los Angeles two young writers, one white, one black, investigate the firebombing of a Korean grocery. When it is not reported by major city papers, they suspect that the LAPD and local officials are neglecting to report the true scope of crime in the inner city, particularly in Watts. A plan is hatched, to produce a book and/or screenplay based on their findings. But as they undertake their mission they are unaware that they are being watched by black militants and a young LAPD detective, who have their own ideas about how the situation should be handled. At the same time they begin to put out feelers in Hollywood, hoping their project will reach the big screen. They struggle to control the outcome as chaos threatens to engulf them. And they wonder if their first project will turn out to be their last. |
