The prayers of God's people who lived many centuries before us, remain relevant, and are examples of how we can approach God to praise and worship Him as well as to address adverse situations in our lives. Prayer helps us to develop a lifestyle of communicating with God in a significant way. The prayers presented in For His Name's Sake, tell the story of each circumstance that motivated someone to pray, pouring out their faith, and asking God to do the seemingly impossible. How did they acquire that level of faith? "For without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him" (Hebrews 11: 6). For His Name's Sake examines a select number of prayers, and each circumstance that inspired someone to pray.
Throughout the Bible, there are many references indicating that there is never too much time spent in prayer. We must "pray without ceasing", which means that we should be constantly focused on communicating with God, listening and speaking to Him throughout our day. Jesus told his disciples that "they should always pray and not give up" (Luke 18:1).
We are encouraged to read God's Word and pray to Him each day. This practice will help us navigate and live an abundant life. God's Word will provide direction and instructions for us each day, and prayer will connect us with our heavenly father. The Bible, commissioned by God, perfect in its presentation, will teach us everything we need to know about how to conduct our lives, and receive the blessings of God, while waiting for the promise of eternal life through Christ Jesus.
