"Eva the Fifth" is a spirited three-act comedy that offers an insightful behind-the-scenes look at the unique world of "Tom Shows"-the traveling theatrical troupes that once crisscrossed rural America. Centered on the Halloway family, the play explores the lives of performers dedicated to the perennial touring production of "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

The title refers to the Halloways' long-standing tradition: the role of Little Eva has been passed down through five generations of the family's daughters. As the current Little Eva reaches an age where she can no longer convincingly play the child role, her younger sister is thrust into the spotlight. The transition sparks a series of comedic conflicts and heartfelt moments, illustrating the professional and personal pressures of life on the road in the early 20th century.

Collaboratively written by Kenyon Nicholson and John Golden, this work serves as both a hilarious satire of the theatrical profession and a nostalgic tribute to a bygone era of American entertainment. It captures the grit, glamour, and eccentricity of the traveling stage, making it a valuable piece for readers and performers interested in the history of American drama and the evolution of the performing arts.
