The story takes the reader along on a trek with Peter and the band through thousands of miles of tunnels across vast underground oceans, over seas of molten magma and oil into wide caverns with gold and copper. There are many fascinating creatures and places that the group encounters along the way, including the remains of a fallen lunar moon, which now millions of years later, is a dark and decaying planet with black cheese. The remains of a interplanetary space liner and a 500 foot deep meteor crater. The mice find the Continental Rodent Ditch similar to the Grand Canyon on the earth's surface and the six-mile high Alligator Falls.
