When the body of a young woman - Jane Roberts - is found in woodland in a Lancashire town, Detective Sergeant Laura McGanity is first on the scene. But inspection of the body shows that this is no ordinary murder.

Jane's body bears the same distinctive hallmarks as a woman found dead three weeks earlier - it has been stripped, strangled and stuffed; every orifice filled with leaves and dirt. It's clear that a dangerous, psychopathic serial killer is on the loose.

Laura's fiancé, reporter Jack Garrett, finds himself embroiled in this dark underworld whilst working on an investigation on the down-at-heel Whitcroft estate. When Jack comes face-to-face with Jane's father and local mafia boss, Don Roberts, he knows that he is dealing with a dangerous - and angry - man who will stop at nothing to see justice done.

When Jack starts to receive emails about the murders, it seems he is dealing with a leak in the police ranks. But with the killer circling once more, Jack and Laura know they hold the key to his discovery. However, the killer has his sights set on his target already. And he is watching Laura's every move...
