The Elder has been keeping a secret. Long ago, four students of the world's hidden architecture stood together. Three of them chose to dissolve the walls between their minds and become a single will - and when they tried to do it to others, they were sealed away in the gap between things.
Now the One-Who-Is-Three has returned, and they have come not with armies but with an offer: the end of suffering.
Ash is the only one who can perceive their link from the inside. To save the fragile world she helped build, she will have to learn a new kind of seeing, find the hidden center of a fused consciousness, and answer the oldest question any creature ever asks itself:
