Bahrain First Division League was the 53rd edition of top level football
in Bahrain. Muharraq Club had been the defending champions for the
previous four seasons, but lost this championship on the final day to
Al-Ahli (Manama). The Bahraini Premier League is the main football
competition in Bahrain. The first season was held in 1957. The winners
of the domestic championship qualify for the AFC Cup. The bottom two
cubs are usually relegated to the 2nd level, although in 2008, the
league was restructured and all 19 professional clubs formed a one
season Classification League. The top ten teams remained in the Premier
League with the bottom nine being relegated. |
