An offbeat, somewhat tongue-in-cheek guide to living an alternative digital lifestyle in the Internet's underworld - The ultimate guide to the mysterious, underbelly of the internet-and how to survive it!
- Learn how to dress, talk, type, and prank like a true Elite Hacker!
- Master the 1337 online language and talk with other hackers.
- Hacking has become a popular hobby of middle and upper middle class teens, according to the UCLA Online Institute for Cyberspace Law and Policy
This book is not intended for people who just want to use a computer to send e-mail and do homework. It is a humorous, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, guide for would-be computer "hackers" (also known as script-kiddies to real hackers) on how to live an alternate digital lifestyle in the underworld of the Internet. It reviews numerous aspects of this sub-culture, from codenames and attire, to the cryptic 1337 language that is prevalent in on-line conversations and chat rooms. It does not give detailed step-by-step instructions on how to write a virus, but reviews the nature of viruses. The reader will also learn a wide variety of different practical jokes to play on the desktop. This book teaches the reader how to be really annoying with tons of tricks the hacker wannabe can do with computers-while (whether he or she realizes it or not) learning the operating system. tapeworm has been developing web sites and hacking his personal computer as an obsessive hobbyist since the summer of 1998. He has volunteered at codewalkers.com, a resource for PHP and MySQL developers since 2002, and has done various reviews and technical edits for Sams Publishing and php/architect magazine. During the day, tapeworm provides technical assistance for a federal government agency's website, which he has been doing since December 2001. |
