The Fingerpoke of Doom is a nickname for an "infamous" incident in American professional wrestling that happened on January 4, 1999 on WCW Monday Nitro, the flagship show of World Championship Wrestling, during a match between Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash. The show took place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. At the start of the match, Hogan poked Nash in the chest with his index finger; Nash fell over backwards and allowed Hogan to pin him. The event has since been referred to as the Fingerpoke of Doom both because of the way Nash oversold the finger poke, and the negative ramifications the event had on WCW itself. It has been described as a pivotal moment that led to the downfall of WCW during the Monday Night Wars.
