The National Advanced Driving Simulator at the University of Iowa was the largest ground vehicle driving simulator in the world till 2007. Since November 2007, the Toyota one is the largest with the same technology. It was developed from 1996 till 2001 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to conduct human factors research on driver's behaviour. The simulator consists of a dome with a vehicle cab inside. The vehicle is attached to a motorized turntable that allows the dome to rotate and simulate different driving conditions. Large excursions in longitudinal and lateral directions are used to give accelerations and motions cues to the driver inside.
