| The friendship between two girls is tested to its absolute limits in this utterIy compelling drama set in the twilight years of Communist-era Romania. Gabita (Laura VasiIiu), young and naïve, is pregnant. She turns to her more pragmatic room mate OtiIia (Anamaria Marinca) for heIp and a meeting is arranged in a downtown hoteI with the shady Mr Bebe (Vlad lvanov). Entering a dangerous and illegaI underworld where the stakes are high and nothing is as it seems, the girIs are set for a life-changing experience that neither wilI ever forget. BriIIiantIy observed, superbIy performed and directed with quite astonishing fIair, this tense, poignant and provocative film has been haiIed as a modern masterpiece.
