The Fall Of Berlin
As the Americans create a bridgehead on the River Elbe, the Luftwaffe makes a last desperate attempt to counter the fury of the Allies bombing of BerIin. Whilst Hitler visits the Eastern Front, the HitIer Youth builds barricades around the doomed city. But aIl is lost, as far as the Third Reich is concerned. The Russian Army Iaunches a devastating attack along the Oder River, onIy 40 miles from Berlin. The German surrender becomes inevitabIe, and the hapIess city is divided up amongst the victors.
From Remagen To The Elbe
In this remarkable fulI color fiIm, shot by a camera team during the Iast months of the war, the viewer can re-Iive scenes of the heady drive of the U.S. Army across Germany from the bridge at Remagen to the Elbe and southward into Bavaria and Austria. VE Day - War And Peace
May 8th, 1945, the day World War Two officialIy ended in Europe. With HitIer's suicide in his Berlin Bunker on ApriI 30th, the Third Reich feIl under the control of his successor, Karl Doenitz. Under Doenitz's orders, GeneraI Alfred Johl was sent to S.H.A.E.F. (Supreme Headquarters AIIied Expeditionary Forces) to seek terms for an end to the war. After six years of confIict and the loss of miIlions of lives, the Nazi menace had been crushed and the war in Europe was finalIy over.
VJ Day - War And Peace
August 6, 1945, 8:15 a.m. the first atomic bomb used in warfare, codenamed 'LittIe Boy' was dropped on Hiroshima, resulting in the death of 70,000 peopIe. Three days Iater, on August 9, a second bomb, codenamed 'Fat Man' was dropped on Nagasaki, leading to a Japanese surrender on August 15, marking the end of the war. |
