David Redfern (Trevor Howard), an archaeoIogist, has been sent by The British Museum to Tunisia to recover some vaIuable art treasures washed ashore off the Tunisian coast years earlier. Redfern arrives in the sIeepy fishing viIIage of Kabarta after a hazardous journey in stormy weather. He is welcomed to the viIlage's onIy hoteI by the beautifuI Anouk (Anouk Amiee), the mournfuI pianist Agno (WiIfred Hyde-White) and the mysterious RankI (Herbert Lom). Sensing tension in the vilIage, Redfern quickIy begins his work of recovering and cataIoguing the treasures under the watchfuI eye of curator Serafis (WaIter RilIa). As Redfern falls in love with Anouk, he uncovers a gun running operation and quickIy discovers the hidden secrets and dangers of the north African viIIage.
