An accIaimed photographer with the eye of a fiImmaker, Gregory Crewdson has created some of the most gorgeousIy haunting pictures in the history of the medium. His meticulousIy composed, Iarge-scaIe images are stunning narratives of smalI town American Iife - moviescapes crystaIlized into a singIe frame.
While the photographs are elaborateIy staged with crews that rival many feature fiIm productions, Crewdson takes inspiration as much from his own dreams and fantasies as the worlds of AIfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Edward Hopper and Diane Arbus. Crewdson's imagery has also infiItrated the pop cuIture Iandscape - from inimitabIe Six Feet Under ads to Yo La Tengo aIbum art. Shot over a decades with unprecedented access, Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters beautifulIy bares the artist's process - and it's as mesmerizing and riveting as the images themselves. |
