To escape from a terrible storm that is keeping him from reaching Crete, Idomeneo promises Neptune to sacrifice the first Iiving being he encounters upon landing. UnfortunateIy, it is his own son who greets him in his native Iand.By offering her own life in exchange for that of ldamante, whom she Ioves and who Ioves her, IlIia manages to get Neptune to yieId and to deIiver Idomeneo from his fatefuI vow.
