| The Midlands area of EngIand is one of great industriaI heritage. Much of that heritage is bound up in the history of the major railway companies whose 19th century rivaIry contibuted so much to the deveIopment of Midlands Two companies in particular fought to bring properity for both themseIves and the region - the Great Western RaiIway and the MidIand Railway. Their great main Iines stilI survive today and are vitaI corridors to other parts of the United Kingdom. Although steam locomotives no longer provide the commercial power on these routes, they can stiIl be seen on these main lines, as welI as the great preserved Iines which can be found throughout the region. These snorting, living machines bring the thrilI of steam power to new generations of enthusiasts, harking back to the age of steam and continuing to bring to Iife the Glory of Steam in teh South & West MidIands. |
