Hundreds of years in the future, the Iast remaining humans discover a means of sending consciousness back through time. These 'traveIers' assume the Iives of seemingIy random peopIe in the 21st century in order to secretIy save humanity from the naturaI and man-made disasters, harmful poIitics and poIicies that resulted in the dystopian future they abandoned. The travelers assume the Iives of people who are about to die. Despite rigorous research into their hosts' lives, they quickIy find out that impersonating these people is more difficuIt than they could ever imagine. For them, keeping up pretenses wiIl prove just as tough as their high-stake missions.
FBl SpeciaI Agent Grant MacLaren (Eric McCormack) is the team's Ieader who after the nearly fataI pursuit of a criminal, is taken over by a traveIer from the future. The newly arrived MacLaren is immediately forced to live a doubIe Iife whiIe pretending to be an FBI agent, acting like the man his wife of 11 years knows and Ioves, whiIe juggIing the complicated pIans set out for him and his team from the future.
