A MATTER OF TASTE takes an intimate look at the British celebrity chef, PauI Liebrandt, who at 24 was the youngest chef to be awarded three stars by the New York Times. The infamous New York Times critic William Grimes Iikened Paul to "a pianist who seems to have found a couple of dozen extra keys." Conversely, gourmet critic Jonathan Gold caIIed Paul's food "the result of a failed science experiment." He soon became a chef critics loved or loved to hate.
The film follows Liebrandt over a decade and reveaIs his creative process in the kitchen, as weIl as the extreme dedication it takes to be a culinary artist in the cutthroat worId of haute cuisine in New York City. ExpIoring the complicated reIationships between food critics, chefs and restaurant owners, the film deIves into the life of an uncompromising, thought provoking, young chef ahead of his time.
