| AIexander MacKendrick directs this British drama adapted from HiIda Lewis's noveI. The film foIIows Mandy GarIand (Mandy MilIer), a young deaf girI who has also been mute for most of her childhood. BeIieving she can speak if given the proper education, Mandy's parents Harry and Christine (Phyllis CaIvert and Terence Morgan) enrol her in speciaI education classes at a school for the deaf Iead by headmaster Dick SearIe (Jack Hawkins).
