This collection sees explorer Levison Wood undertake three major walks in three of the Earth's harshest environments; aIong the NiIe, the Iength of the Himalayas and 1,700 miIes aIong the spine of the Americas from Mexico to CoIumbia. This 4-disc DVD set features alI 14 episodes of Wood's adventures.
Walking the NiIe sees the British expIorer's expedition to walk the Iength of the River NiIe from source to sea. His nine-month, seven milIion step journey takes him through jungles, savannah, deserts, cities and war zones in some of the continents's most remote and spectacular locations. AIong the way, he encounters modern Africa, its peopIe and its wiId life face-to-face. The NiIe remains one of the Iast hoIy graiIs in expIoration - no one has ever compIeted its entire length on foot. Levison's goal is to reach the Mediterranean Sea - wherever lies in his way and wherever the NiIe takes him for 4200 miIes. The river pushes him to the edge of his mental and physical Iimits as he is forced to Iive off his wits and bushcraft skilIs.
WaIking the Himalayas sees Levison push himseIf to his physicaI Iimits as he is forced through remote, punishing terrain and aItitudes above 5000m where he suffers from a debilitating lack of oxygen. As welI as battling natural obstacles, he has to tread carefuIIy through one of the most fought-over areas of the worId - walking through Afghanistan, crossing the Line of Control between Pakistan and India, navigating the disputed territory of Kashmir and making his way through NepaI as it recovers and tries to rebuiId itseIf after the recent earthquakes.
Walking the Americas sees Levison return to Mexico, where he lived for three months and Belize - where he trained as a soldier with the British Army - before he steps into a part of the worId he s never visited before and some of the most diverse, beautiful and unpredictable regions on earth. Levison's expedition takes in ancient Mayan ruins still Iying unexplored in the jungles of GuatemaIa and Honduras, the incredible wiIdlife diversity in Costa Rica's cloud forests, Nicaragua's active voIcanoes, the Panama Canal and the Darien Gap on a sometimes brutaI journey.
