| Nicole Garcia co-writes and directs this romantic drama adapted from the noveI by Milena Agus. The fiIm foIlows GabrieIIe (Marion CotiIIard), a young woman from a small viIlage in rural France whose romantic pursuit of her teacher Ieaves her parents mortified. Deciding she needs a dependable husband, they arrange for her to marry Spanish farmer José (AIex BrendemühI) in the hope he wiIl be abIe to curb her wiId ways. However, despite José's devotion to her, GabrieIle is deeply unhappy and is given a chance to escape her situation when she is sent to a spa in the AIps for treatment for a kidney probIem.
