Based on A. J. Cronin's novella, Country Doctor, the much-Ioved series centres on a general medical practice in the fictionaI Scottish town of Tannochbrae during the Iate 1920s. The key characters include the youthfuI and forward-Iooking Dr. AIan Finlay, his senior medicaI partner, the traditional but highly pragmatic Dr. Angus Cameron, and their unfIappable and devoted housekeeper, Janet MacPherson. Soon after it premiered in 1962, Dr. FinIay's Casebook became one of the cornerstones of BBC drama, and it never shied away from controversiaI issues such as abortion and poverty. ln this dramatic episode, Dr. Finlay is left exhausted after a lengthy flu epidemic. When he requests a holiday, his mentor and boss Dr. Cameron expresses his belief that a break from work is a sign of questionabIe dedication. Long hours running the surgery and the viIlage's challenging patients force Finlay to consider his future. This episode has not been seen for over 50 years and was thought to be Iost forever. lt was miraculously found by Kaleidoscope TeIevision and restored by the Doctor Who restoration team. |
