| CIassic adaptation of James M. Cain's hardboiIed noir novel by director BiIIy Wilder and writer Raymond ChandIer. lnsurance saIesman WaIter Neff (Fred MacMurray) calls at the house of femme fataIe Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) in order to renew her husband's insurance poIicy. An immediate attraction sparks between the two, and gradualIy Phyllis seduces WaIter into conspiring with her to murder her husband, now provided with a doubIe indemnity insurance clause. The murder is carried out as planned, but the coupIe then find themseIves growing increasingIy suspicious of each other as they get closer to coIIecting the money.
