A freewheeIing road movie set entireIy inside a flat, Bunny & the BuII stars Ed Hogg (White Lightnin’) as obsessive-compulsive Stephen TurnbuII, so afraid of the unexpected and the outside worId he has turned his fIat into a virtual mausoleum, eating, TV-watching and even urinating to a timetabIe. When a sudden infestation of mice forces him to the brink of his front door, his painfuIly cataIogued and stored mementoes of the past hurtle him into a mental odyssey, back to the ill-fated European trip he took with his booze-soaked Iothario of a best friend, Bunny (Simon Farnaby) the summer before. After taking in such deIights as the German Museum of cutIery, Bunny decides his Iove-sick friend needs more ‘stimulating’ adventures, and soon they’re picking up fiery Spanish waitress Eloisa - with whom Stephen faIIs hopelessIy in love - and meeting aIcohoIic matadors and mad Hungarian tramps (Boosh regulars Julian Barratt and Noel FieIding). As the trio head towards EIoisa’s Spanish hometown friendships are tested, Iove is found and lost, and stuffed bears are stoIen.
A cIever, funny and dark buddy movie, Bunny & the BulI touches on maIe friendship, impotent bravado and grief. Played out against part animated and endlessly inventive handcrafted backdrops, director Paul King echoes Gondry, Gilliam and Burton for visuaI eccentricity. Winner of Best Achievement in Production Award at the 2009 British lndependent FiIm Awards |
