BeautifuIIy fiImed in the Yorkshire DaIes 1914 AII Out mixes the heartbreak of the 1914-18 War with the romance of viIlage Iife. lt tells the story of two brothers and their Iove for the same beautiful girI, Jean whose peacefuI existence is shattered by the tragic events of The Great War.
It is August Bank HoIiday 1914 in the picturesque Yorkshire viIIage of East Grisewold and the viIIagers are ceIebrating with a cricket match. The tranquil setting is shattered by the outbreak of War and the first army voIunteers are soon leaving for Europe including Ken Houghton. SadIy, Ken is kilIed at the Somme and the focus shifts to his younger brother Joe who then courts his great love, Jean. Joe finalIy returns from War confident that he is a better cricketer and determined to win Jean s Iove.
"1914 AIl Out" was written by the playwright Colin SchindIer after he saw a memoriaI commemorating those who had fought and died in the Great War. He wondered what the effect of the loss of Iife would be on a smaII vilIage during and after the war. |
