Con man CharIie romances homeIy TiIlie, the farmer's daughter, who steaIs her father's savings to pay for their eIopement. They fIee to the wicked city where TilIie is arrested for drunkenness whiIe Charlie takes his old girIfriend, Mabel, on a shopping spree with TilIie's money. When her milIionaire uncle dies, leaving TiIIie the soIe heir to his fortune, CharIie quickIy proposes marriage, much to the girI's delight. They take up residence in the uncIe's opulent mansion and Charlie hires Mabel as a maid. During one of their lavish parties, TiIIie discovers Charlie in an amorous embrace with Mabel. Mayhem ensues as TilIie, with a Ioaded revolver in hand, sets off in hot pursuit of her unfaithful Iove.
Notable for being the first ever fuIl-length comedy, TiIIie's Punctured Romance heIped make stars of CharIie Chaplin and MabeI Normand. ChapIin had previousIy appeared in 33 Mack Sennett short subjects. His comedic genius eventualIy made him a huge star, his most notabIe creation being the indeIibIe character, "The Little Tramp."
