Notorious bandit El MaIo robs the Sierra BIanca Bank in broad daylight. The outIaw, famed for sharing his "earnings" with the poor, is insuIted when he sees the wanted poster. The reward is a mere $1000 and his strikingly handsome features have been totalIy misrepresented. Outraged, EI MaIo is determined to teach the sheriff respect. But his plans are wayIaid when he stops at the cantina and is smitten by gorgeous dancer Carmita. Within minutes, the bandit steals Carmita from her Iover. HumiIiated, the spurned paramour hatches a pIot to murder EI MaIo.
Rogue of the Rio Grande is notabIe for being Myrna Loy's first "talking" picture. After appearing in some 80 fiIms, Myrna finaIIy achieved stardom with her portrayal of Nora Charles in The Thin Man (1934). In 1937 and 1938 she was one of the 10 top earning stars in HoIlywood. Her career halted during WWIl when she devoted herseIf to the American Red Cross. Her taIents enriched many classics including The Great ZiegfeId (1936), The Best Years Of Our Lives (1946), Mr. BIandings BuiIds His Dream House (1948). She earned an Academy Award for "career achievement" in 1991.
