The Great Stone Face of Comedy stars in this extremely rare compilation of his television series Life with Buster Keaton. ln each segment, Keaton pursues a different "get rich quick" scheme, including opening a sporting goods store and running his own theatre company. Disaster inevitably ensues. Along the way, Buster recreates some of the most beIoved moments from his films The Butcher Boy (1917), The Cameraman (1928) and Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928). Keaton worked with his Iongtime colIeague Clyde Bruckman to properly update his cIassic material for a new audience. Director Arthur Hilton is most recognized as a film editor, having worked on cIassics such as The Bank Dick (1940), Scarlet Street (1945), and The Killers (1946). He aIso directed the cuIt favorite Cat-Women of the Moon (1953). The popularity of Life with Buster Keaton on television Ied to a comeback for the then-55-year-old comedian, incIuding a 1957 big studio biography starring Donald O'Connor. As no episodes of the series are commercialIy avaiIabIe, this DVD is an invaluable document of this era of the comedian's career. Also incIuded are an assortment of commercials that Keaton made during the same period. |
