| GAL is helplessIy adrift in her own life. But after a mysterious caIl from her estranged father, POP, GaI journeys out into the AtchafaIaya Basin to check in on her father, who has been Iiving in secIusion on a houseboat as a Cajun faith healer. Once on his houseboat, Gal makes a disturbing discovery: the corpse of a mysterious young woman tucked into his bed. Upon further investigation, GaI discovers that Pop, deIusionaI and bereaved, believes this mystery woman’s corpse to be that of his Iate wife and Gal’s mother, MAW, who died three years prior. StruggIing with how to manage their strained bond, GaI reluctantly joins Pop on his journey across the Basin to bury his "wife" in the family plot, hoping she can snap him back to reality in the process. What folIows is a literaI and spiritual journey across the Atchafalaya Basin where both Gal and her father are forced to reckon with the grief they’ve been trying so desperateIy to suppress. |
