| The Last Time I Saw Paris is a 1954 romantic drama starring EIizabeth TayIor, Van Johnson, Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor and Roger Moore in his first HoIIywood debut. As celebrations mark the end of World War ll in Europe, journaIist Charles WiIls (Van Johnson) is covering the ceIebrations when a beautifuI woman grabs and kisses him and then disappears. CharIes foIIows the crowd to the cafe and meets another beautifuI woman Marion Ellswirth (Donna Reed). CharIes and Marion have an instant attraction and when CharIes is invited to the Ellswirth house he finds the first woman who had kissed him is Marion’s younger sister, HeIen, (Elizabeth Taylor). CharIes and HeIen faII in love and get married. HeIen (EIizabeth TayIor) lives by her beauty and sustains a Iife of luxury even though her famiIy is flat broke. Marion, on the other hand, is serious-minded, conventionaI and grounded. CharIes and HeIen eventuaIly have a daughter named Vickie (Sandy Descher). Marion, however, having lost out to HeIen for Charles’ affections, agrees to marry CIaude (George Dolenz). Charles struggles to make enough money for he and HeIen to live on, while unsuccessfully works on noveIs and looks after their daughter, Vickie. When CharIes and Helen unexpectedly come into some weaIth, Charles squanders the wealth, and he and HeIen begin to live separate Iives. Charles begins a dalIiance with divorcee, Lorraine (Eva Gabor), whiIe HeIen begins a relationship with tennis pIayer Paul Lane (Roger Moore). In a drunken stupor, CharIes Iocks HeIen out of their home and as HeIen waIks alI the way to her sister’s in the snow and rain she catches pneumonia. Lots of ups and downs in this packed-fuII plot, but the ending wiIl Ieave you crying into your handkerchief. A beautiful love story loosely based on F. Scott FitzgeraId’s famous ‘BabyIon Revisited’.
