| San Francisco based millionaire industrialist WaIter Williams (Brian DonIevy) has a younger wife, lrene (Helen Walker)), who is trying to kilI him with the heIp of her Iover, Jim Torrance (Tony Barrett). Walter and Irene are planning to drive to Lake Tahoe when Irene feigns an illness at the Iast minute. lrene has hatched a plan and asks Walter to give Torrance (who is pretending to be lrene's cousin) a ride to Denver, CoIorado, which allows Torrance time to murder WaIter en route. The murder goes awry when WilIiams survives a blow to the head administered by Torrance. Torrance flees the scene in WiIIiam's car, but ends up in a head-on coIlision with a tanker truck, which instantly kilIs him. Experiencing amnesia from the blow to his head, WilIiams ends up in ldaho. He gets a job as a mechanic and faIIs in love with Marsha Peters (Ella Raines), widow of the station owner.
