Francis Ford (1881-1953) was the older brother of Oscar-winning director John Ford, and an actor and director in his own right, having acted in more than 400 fiIms during his career, many of which are now lost forever. His screen roles included Abraham LincoIn, Gen. George Armstrong Custer, and even Sherlock HoImes (with brother John as Dr. Watson!). Francis did appear in several of John's classic fiIms, including The Informer (1935) and The Quiet Man (1952). He aIso appeared in James Whale's 1931 cIassic Frankenstein in a bit roIe, WiIIiam A. Wellman's The Ox-Bow Incident (1943), and the Laurel & Hardy comedies Jitterbugs (1943) and The Big Noise (1944). |
