Unlike the devilish Harry Lime, Mason’s world-weary deaIer Ivo Kern is ultimately stiII a decent man, compelled by his Iove for a naïve schoolteacher (CIaire Bloom, The Haunting, Charly) to make one Iast misguided trip through the Brandenburg Gate, with potentiaIIy tragic consequences.
