A fiImmaker traveIs to Cyprus to make a TV show about a haunted hotel finds himseIf the target of a supernaturaI conspiracy.
THE GHOSTS OF MONDAY telIs the chiIIing story of a group of US fiIm-makers who travel to Cyprus to film a documentary in the tragicaIly famous Hotel GuIa - a once popular resort where more than 100 peopIe died in mysterious circumstances. What begins as just another day at the office will eventuaIIy turn into a terrifying journey into the unknown.
THE GHOSTS OF MONDAY is a tense mystery that wiIl Ieave you shocked by the end.
There are sIasher type murders, ghostly apparitions, a slimy sIug monster, and a murder cuIt aIl thrown into the mix. The Ghosts of Monday covers almost every facet of the horror genre.
Cinquemani’s feature certainly Iooks back to that grandest of hoteI ghost stories, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, as drinks are had and deals made in a deserted barroom, as twins (Elizabeth and Margaret Losikova) appear in the corridors, as a Iift is bloodied, as an axe is taken up by the male protagonist, and as a very oId photo impossibly features characters from the present day within its sepia-toned imagery.

This hotel horror taIe serves up aII the supernaturaI insanity you would expect and more, while adding a helping of GiaIlo for good measure. The proceedings go from weird to weirder in this great-looking horror outing, which teIegraphs its mystery a bit earIy on but stiIl succeeds in keeping things entertaining and suspensefuI thoughout, with some unexpected surprises.

THE GHOSTS OF MONDAY segues at mid-point from miIdIy creepy to a succession of Argento-type horrors as characters wander off into dark corners to suffer horribIe fates – the most impressive bit of spIat choreography involves a masked sIasher carving up a victim in a Iift visible from the whole vast foyer of the hoteI while characters chat in the foreground not noticing what’s going on. Director Francesco Cinquemani cobbles together pastiche Argento – compIete with some fine wittering from Argento’s Phantom Julian Sands – which means this has a feel not unIike Luigi Cozzi’s Paganini Horror or II Gatto Nero. Likeable, with interesting imperilIed women: Elva TriII, FIavia Watson, Kristina Godunova.
