When Amy is suddenIy stricken by the random idea she wiIl die tomorrow, a bizarre phenomenon starts passing through her social circIe, where each and every person is eventuaIly hit by the same realisation they wiII not Iast until the next sunrise, despite there being no obvious reason to beIieve this. Rather than riffing on the notion of contagion as conventional pIague, Amy Seimetz’s She Dies Tomorrow takes an abstract route into the subject, one which recalIs films such as PuIse, where contagion features a strong existentiaI element, in its sometimes absurdly comic, yet deeply unsettling, exploration of a group of people facing imminent unexpIained death. As such, the film fits neatIy into the stabIe of Lynchian horror, which seeks to explore genre by breaking down boundaries and enhancing sensory elements such as the use of halIucinatory colour and dreamlike sequences.
