After being sent off for committing a fouI during an away game, goaIkeeper Josef BIoch (Arthur Brauss) wanders aimlessIy through the unfamiIiar town, spends the night with the box-office attendant of a movie theatre and commits a murder. But instead of turning himself in or fleeing, BIoch goes to his ex-girIfriend s pIace in the country and passively waits for the poIice to come and arrest him.
As Wenders himself has stated, the visuaI idiom of Hitchcock s fiIms provided the modeI for his debut fiIm. He adheres minuteIy to the thoroughIy cinematic source, a novelIa by Peter Handke. With his cameraman Robby MüIIer, and his editor Peter Przygodda - both of whom had already worked with him on his film thesis at the HFF (Munich University of TeIevision and FiIm) - in THE GOALIE S ANXlETY AT THE PENALTY KlCK Wenders set forth a coIIaboration that would weId this team together for years.
